TRCC's counsellors benefit from a combined experience of over 14 years working directly with survivors of sexual violence within a Rape Crisis setting.
This has enabled them to develop a robust understanding of the impact this work has upon them personally and professionally. They have gained insight into compassion fatigue, vicarious / secondary trauma and burn out.
This workshop is aimed at newly qualified counsellors, counsellors in training and counsellors new to working with sexual violence.
Objectives
Develop an understanding of the impact, both professionally and personally of working with survivors of sexual violence.
Explore and develop positive coping strategies and self care.

Due to the emotive and challenging nature of working with survivors of sexual violence it can often lead to professionals feeling overwhelmed, out of their depth and burnt out.
TRCC's non-counselling staff benefit from a wealth of experience of working with survivors of sexual violence within a Rape Crisis setting. This has allowed them to develop a unique understanding of the impact this work has on them.
This workshop offers non-counselling professionals the opportunity to explore the important issues of self care, professional boundaries and work/life balance.
